When our newly formed board of directors met to set goals and prepare a budget, purchasing an AcuSpike trainer looked like a far reach for the first year of our new club. We had so much to do, and organizing fundraisers was a pretty low priority. However, at our parent information meeting at the beginning of the JO season, we told players and parents that we eventually hoped to purchase training equipment. One parent was so inspired that she gave us a generous donation that we used as a "seed" to plant and grow.
We had requests for club apparel to show our Eagle pride, and were able to quickly organize selections for players and parents and use the apparel sales to raise money to put towards the AcuSpike, our pot of money was beginning to grow. Then our 12U and 17U players worked at two concessions stands during high school basketball games which put us almost half way. Finally, we applied for and received a generous grant through the Dover Eyota Eagles Foundation, and received generous donations from Higgins Custom Cabinetry and Hiawatha Sno-Seekers. We did it!
